Alligators, Turtles, and Snakes... Oh My!

Jason is finally off for a few days so we decided to take a trip to the aquarium to beat the heat. We have a very sweet friend that works there and she offered to give us a "behind the scenes" tour of the place. As we drove up, I started to panic a little because there was no parking on the street so we went in the parking garage and usually there is tons of spaces on the second floor, but it was full today!!! We were kinda hoping that everyone was going on a boat tour, but no... they were all in the aquarium. Jamie tried to tell us that it was a slow day, but I guess I just got used to middle of the week during the school year that this seemed like a zoo.
Luckily everything we did was behind closed doors so we just had to push past the people for a second and then we had quiet. First we went into a classroom and saw a box turtle and a snake. The turtle was cute and crawled all over the place. The girls got a kick out of it trying to hide under stuff. Then came the snake and Jason went and hid in another room... so that made the girls a little scared, but of course little miss "i can do anything" Reagan went over and poked it some. Then we took a trip all the way up to the top of the tank to see where the divers get in. We thought we would see them going in, but we were quick enough and they had already gotten in. So we watch the fish and then went out on the roof to see the baby alligators and some more turtles. Riley wasn't too sure about the alligators, but Reagan like petting it's tail. Then both girls thought it was really neat when Jamie showed us the food that the fish eat and they really giggled at the squid! Then we headed all the way to the bottom of the aquarium to see the sea turtle clinic. This was what Riley was really wanting to do and she loved going from tank to tank to see them and find out what was wrong with them. While we were down there they had some of the smaller turtles out painting.... they had some pieces of cardboard laying out and then piles of paint and they let the turtles walk through the paint and then onto the cardboard. It was really neat and pretty cool looking. These were going to be gifts for kids coming to a birthday party on Saturday... pretty neat.
I think the girls had a great time and of course were begging to go back right when we got in the car. I guess we are going to have to get another membership next year because they really do have fun there!
Shark Week!
